dead bugs

is there any downsides to feeding lizards and other bug eaters dead insects. Like the ones that come in little plastic jars or the "Can o' crickets", etc. ?

Although the Can O' Crickets/Grasshopers/Snails/Worms are safe to feed, and contain the whole, unsubstituted items, you cannot beat the fresh factor (ugh... if you've used this stuff before you know how bad it smells when you open a can!). Fresh animals have the maximum nutrient content, some of it may be lost once they are dead and preserved. The can reads that there are no additives or preservatives, only the bugs in question, but I don't know how reliable that is. The price is also outrageous on them. Never figured out why the snails are de-shelled either. The shells are loaded full of calcium. Also, a lot of lizards prefer moving prey items, so they may be wasted.

ok thanks for that. I have been using live bugs for years anyways. I was thinking of geting dead so it would take up less space, i wouldn't have to cage them and feed them.
