blood sizes

I was in a pet store, and they had a "sumatran blood python" for sale. I asked about it, and the reptile guy told me he did some research before bringing it in, and that they were smaller than "regular" blood pythons, and would only grow to around 4 feet. I'm no expert on blood pythons, but I didn't think they stayed that small. Anyone care to comment?

It depends. If it is a Sumatran Short-tailed Python (P. curtus aka Black Blood) or if it s Sumatran Red Blood Python (P. brongersmai). The Sumatran STP do attain smaller sizes, but generally the Sumatran Bloods are near the top of the spectrum. Since both are referred to by some as blood pythons, it can be confusing, perhaps the guy got his info mixed up.

stp vs blood python

Yeah, when I was looking for a Malaysian Blood Python, I had a guy tell me he had a breeder with some " chocolate bloods" !
I nodded and smiled, and assumed he ment Borneos...
Sumatran short tailed pythons are black, Sumatran Blood pythons are red.
The Sumatran Blood differs from the Malaysian Blood by looks as well as region. From what I've seen, the Malaysian bloods are usually more red, and often have a black or silver head. Most Sumatran Bloods are of a more orangey/red, and have a tan or peach head. I believe both of the Bloods attain the same lengths.
Does anyone out there have a really RED Sumatran Borgersmai?
I'd love to see a picture of one. Mine is more lightly colored, yellow, peach, orange type. I've yet to see a really brilliant RED sumatran.....
ax.
I think the Sumatran Bloods have a better temperment? So I'm told...
