What is ReptiBark?

I've been using it and had no problems with it, but don't have the bag it came in any more. Anyway, I was just wondering what kind of bark it actually is?

I believe it's made mostly from Fir bark.

I had a bad experience with reptibark. Had my bp in a new cage, looked nice, had the smallest litter pan for water, had reptibark up to the sides so it was burried, nice climbing branch (from store)and a new wood hide..........got the hide and the reptibark at the same time.

I picked him up one day and seen something crawling on MY hand. squished it, looked at his belly and there were little black things crawling over him, it looked to be the same as on my hand. AND there were little RED bugs! WTF!!!!!! So I took the hide back, and put the reptibark in a wal-mart bag, took the bag that the reptibark came in, took it all back and I told them to look at the bark and the hide, they were both crawling with both colored mites.

I got back about 35 dollars! I'll never use reptibark again, and any wooden items I get from any pet shop gets baked as soon as I walk in with it.

Sapphire, no mite or bug can live in a bag of bedding for that length of time. By the time it's mulched, bagged, kept in the warehouse, shipped to the retail store, stored before display, kept on display you're looking at 6 months or more. No mite/bug can live that long without food/water. I would look elsewhere for the offending carrier.

chances are your snake hade mite eggs and they hatched but you never realy noticed once the bark is in man you gave them every thing they need to thrive on. the mites could have come somthing as simple as holding a corn snake at the pet shop and then seting up your snake cage at home with out hashing your hads pll don,t seen to realise just how easy it is for some mites to hitch a ride on a shirt or hat or even hair if it is only temporary they will chill any where cure for this is stay as far away from pet store no mater how clean they look never touch anything you don't plan on buying and treating and when you do do that sort of stuf even as far as buying your herp food do it on wash day as soon as you get home take every thing you have and go strait to the wash room strip down to nothing but all your close in a plastic bag and bring it to the washer or if the washer is in bath room skip the bag and launch it right in the washer jump in shower the rince your elf of if you have long hair it is not a bad idea to give it a good wash while you are there grab towle and have fresh out fite in herp room (prepare in advance) dress up and start desinfecting and/or rinsing every thing you baught.

Normaly I have a bleach bucket waiting for me so if I buy anything I launch it right in there and it ca soke while I am in the shower if it is wood or rock's I bake it while I am in the shower. This may seem like over kill but when you deal with a case of mites you soon realise the work you just did to prevent it is only a fraction of the work needed to destroy it *the mite colonie*

hmmm not always, if there is mositure in the bag for an amount of time anything could live, in there, but if you want to get reptile bark, get it from really good plant store, and get the ones that are dry and not in a bag, ive never ahd that problem, IMO
