My Black Milksnake

I got this little guy from Grant at the november show. His approximate age is about four months old and he is roughly 23 inches long.

The black milks, even as babies, seem extremely strong and also extremely docile, but mine seems very clumsy LOL. This guy has an awesome feeding response thus far. He is on a hopper a week and has had one shed with me. The only darkening I have seen is an extremely small dulling affect of the white bands.

I want to hear other people's experiences with their black milks thus far(if anyone else has them heh).

Nice, Andy!
That's one that's on my "get" list, lol!

I know that our friend, Roy Stockwell has some...I'm sure that he might have some interesting comments about them.

Oh, those pics are pretty good, by the way!

Thanks for sharing.

Simon

Definately thanks for sharing these photos. Black milks are on a lot of wanted lists - we have to enjoy photos until we can get our own! Very nice snake and looking forward to seeing how his color develops with time,

He looks great Andy! Very nice... I know that Joe & Roy both have some, maybe they'll have some comments on their experiences so far with them...

Hi Folks...Yes mine are doing fine. I'm not brumating them, so I can continue to put some size on them. My female has almost completely made the transition to black, at just over a year.
My male still has a long way to go, but his black tipping covers more and more of the underlying pattern every shed.
L. t gaigeae like it cooler than some tropical milks. Mine are in the lowest bin in my rack and currrenly see night time lows of 68F and highs of 78F. (I'm cycling the room low for boids)
Even at these low temps they eat like pigs.

These snakes require more water than some milks. Its important to ensure they are never without clean water.
And yes, indeed they are calm for milksnakes and can be held without freaking right out. This is a huge difference compared to other milks like Pueblans(L.t.campbelli), which are notoriously spastic.
I'll try to get a recent pic up here soon.
