Skins cracking on BP
Hey
I have noticed te last cuple das that about 5-1 scales on my 03 bp has started cracking a little and little loose bits of skin are on a couple of the scales.
The temps are 85F hot, 75F cool and 70F. These temps have been the same since I have had her (5 months). 1/3 of the glass tank has condenstion on it, so I think the humididty is fine. This has also been like this for the last 5 months. She has been sheding every 4 weeks, but the last 2 sheds have had 6 weeks between each shed.
This has never happand before.
Should I be highly conserned???
What should I do, if anything???
Cheers
A;ex

Temps are 10 degrees too cold on both sides.

That's long enough to cause sickness at those above mentioned temps.

so I think the humididty is fine.

Don't think, know. Get a hydrometer.
The cracking skin is almost certainly caused be dehydration. Soak your snake in luke warm water for 30 minutes.
Is the snake in a shed cycle now? Another way to address a bad shed is to wrape the snake in a dam towl and put it inside a rubbermaid over night.
Good luck,
Trevor

Thanks guys fot the rally quick replys.
I Will put the temp up to 95hot, 85cool. Is 70F ok for night time????
I will get a hydrometer today.
She has not shed in 6 weeks and her eyes havn't even turned blue yet. My other 5 corns have also been having late shd reasontly. I live in Engand, and its starting to get colder at night. Could this be a reason???
I will put her in Luke warm water tonight.
Shall I make a humid hide for her???
I will try and get a pic o her later today or tomorrow (have to borrow my friends cam).
Cheers
Alex

No real need to drop the temps at night unless you are breeding her. But since I only see one bp mentioned in your signature, you're probably not breeding. Keep the heat on 1/3 of her enclosure 24/7, put some polysporin on the cracks and get an idea of what kind of humidity you're keeping. A humid hide wouldn't hurt.
You say she hasn't shed for 6 weeks so she should be going into shed soon. If this next shed doesn't clear it up, you should consider having her checked out.

I personally don't let my room go below 75 at night.
Can you post any pics?
Cheers,
Trevor

Try it at different places in the cage and in the room. What kind did you buy? I should have mentioned not to get one of those pet store ones they're no good. I use a digital one and I'm very pleased with it.
As for the cracks in the skin. Is it like the snake is trying to shed and the skin is just sitting there flaking off? Are there any open soars or anything like that?

Hey
She is not trying to shed and no little bits of skin are coming off. Mabey im just getting to worried.
I bought it from a pet shop, lol. It is a "Reptile Habitat Humidity gauge" and its made by T-Rex (im not sure if they have T-Rex in America).
I put her into a container with luke warm water (like you said). She has been in it for 10min so far.

That gage is not the best but if the humidity is too low it will at least tell you that. If you don't think it is a bad shed cycle than a soak may not do any good for the snake. If the skin is cracking is it bleeding like a person with very dry skin? If it's not related to a bad shed then I would take it to the vet if there is any open soars. We really need pics before we can tell you anymore.

The humidity in my house is around 60% and the humidity in my bp viv is 80% (way to hight).
How can I bring down the humidity in her viv??? (more ventilation holes???, more substrate over the heatmat???)
Cheers
Alex

I had the same thing happen with my Spotted Python, her humidity and temps were completely fine (I keep her around 60% humidity) but her scales were becoming flaky and she had cracks through alot of them. So, on the advice of Invictus, I made her a humid hide with moist sphagnum moss, as first she was hesitant to go in it (I had put it on the warm side of her cage) and when I put it on the cool side, for some reason, she loved it.
A little while later, she had a perfect shed and almost all of her scales are back to normal.
So, I dont know if it's the same situation with you, but making a humid hide definately benefitted my snake.
