Stressed out at being in a new cage? Maybe he's used to free roaming bugs? Temperatures are good?
I wouldn't get THAT concerned at this point, it's only been a few days but definately keep your eye on him.

Thanks Trace,
672 .. I used to always free roam, but because the cage is so large, even an adult would find the food in there.
On a happy side note ... I think he is ready to breed Trace
Just drop me a PM or email if you wanna breed him

Perhaps put more bugs in at a time, so he can catch them with more ease, or several slightly bigger feeding "tubs" with maybe a branch or perch above them so he can catch them easier, while feeling the "hunt sensation" since the cup would be bigger...

I'd go with stress. He just needs to adjust. You could try pulling the hind legs off a couple crix and setting them in a dish.

Too many changes at once would be my theory. A move to a larger cage is always good for a short hunger strike. Switching from free range to dish feeding always causes a hiccup in the routine. Doing both at the same time will have him upset for a week.

Hey, another thing you could do is make one of those cool feeder dishes... the one made out of milk jugs. Let me know if you've heard of these - if you haven't I'll try to explain a little more.

Jason/Members-
The cup feeder you are talking about is the one featured in the E-zine by Bill Strand. Click HERE to view the article. I use these feeder stations in all my outdoor cages because of the 1/2" screen the cages are made with. If your chameleon is use to free roam feeding they don't take to cup feeding to well. Often one might refuse a cricket in a cup but except them when they run across the screen. You should notice that when you do free roam crickets they will crawl up into the top corners of the cage. With the feeder stations in the article the crickets are being cup fed but are able to move like free roam feeding on the screen attached to the plastic jug. Hope this helps!

Morning Jason.

I totally understand that and I usually caution people to watch the bug intake of their chameleons, but remember reptiles have been designed over millions of years of evolution to be able to survive without eating for a few days.
I know you and your family are anti-freeroaming the bugs in his cage but maybe as an interim step to the cup feeding idea, why can't you freeroam the bugs for a couple of days to a week (whatever he needs) until he's settled again. Chameleons are also designed to find insects in a large area such as your cage. He won't starve himself unless you've got some other health issue going on.
I've also noticed a decrease in appetite in some of my chameleons since cold weather has set in. Meh, I'm watching them, they aren't loosing weight and they do eat, just not as much as they used to.
As for the breeding of Max... WOOHOO! That's something I want to do for sure. I'm going to wait until the holidays are over however just because people tend to get busy. There is possibility of more animals coming into my collection and some that are going out. I'd rather devote the time needed with something like this when we are both not as busy, although you will be doing most of the work at the beginning. LOL!
Cheers!
Trace
