i have a question about bloods..the place i go to for reptiles..has a bunch of bloods..and they always strike at the glass..most of them anyway..are they naturaly agressive?or is it possible to get a tame one from a breeder?or do you have to tame one with handling?let me know..cause i want one..

To answer your question we would need to know the age of the snakes.

If they are imported adults, they will have nasty temperments, and they will bite! Some if caught early in their lives, Maybe a year, will be able to be calmed down to handle, but be wary of striking and biting, still.

If they are babies, Yes they can be tamed with enought TLC and lots of interaction with them.

Even then, you must be weary and expect them to bite. No animal weather it be a mouse, bird, dog, Tiger or snake will ever be 100% Tame. All animals have their wild side with them forever no matter how long they have been in captivity. It is best said,

"Watch with your hands, fingers, and ears, when you go into that tank." especially with large snakes. An adult blood python can inflict a serious wound....especially if it hits a main vein.

Yea, the older ones must be WC adults. Do they have a website? What are their prices on the yearlings and sub-adults? I am also looking for a Red in the near future.

If you have the choice to buy between a breeder and a pet store, pick the breeder. That my friend, is a NO-BRAINER!

Blood pythons striking at you, even those bought breeder-direct, is not uncommon. Bloods have a reputation of being nasties, and while I feel this rep is somewhat overdone, a reputation comes from many many repeated similar experiences. Yes, they do have a propensity toward aggression, but almost every breeder will have at least a few tame ones for you to pick from.

As for handling, some calm down with this, some don't. It's a fact of life with wild animals.

Their bad rep comes from all the imported adults over the years. Pet stores typically deal with this type, not captive bred specimens. Although many captive bred specimens are perfectly manageable, there are absolutely no guarantees. Unless you are ready to deal with a potentially agressive blood, its best to wait on aquiring one until you feel you can. They are powerful constrictors with a big bite on them. Just because one appears tame, even for lengths of time, is not to say you won't have to deal with bites later down the road.

definately go with CB, but you should be prepared to get bitten. With ANY snake you get you have the chance of getting bitten. Bloods end up with a lot of power behind them and from what I've heard, one of the nastiest bites out there. I just got my first blood and though she is extremely calm, I am prepared to take a tag from her somewhere down the line.
