responding to ads

why is that everytime i email someone regarding an ad whether im asking a question or am interested the parties in question seem to A) not respond B) take like a week to respond

now on the very rare occasion i do get responses quick but they are the exception

when placing an ad i would think youd expect some emails and you oughta be prompt in responding with in 24 hours

sorry bout the rant but had to vent

sometimes also people are in the middle of dealing with somebody who responded to the ad before you, and they don't want to email you until they know where they stand with the first guy. Otherwise, you could end up in an awkward situation where two people want to accept the same animal or whatever.

BoAddict, I totally agree.

chas*e, the job thing and lack of spare time eeeyeah I can see that. But they've gotta know what their getting themselves into man c'mon! I forgive

Lilyskip, I see where you are coming from but it wouldn't hurt to respond with "I'm currently working a deal right now, I'll let you know how it goes yada yada." or something like that.

A response is a response whether favorable or not and is much appreciated.

Alot of times I've sent out e-mails showing interest and NEVER get a response back. Tell me the snake died, or it was sold, or you're not selling it anymore, or it grew legs and is now worth $100,000.00. I wouldn't care what I was told, all I'm looking for is a response.

What's funny is that sometimes after sending out e-mails that never get answered, the interesting ad gets reposted sometime down the line.

WHAT ABOUT ME!

It must be nice to be sitting by your computer all day just WAITING for a PM or an e-mail to come in so that you can respond to it immediately. As for my opinion, I feel that since most of the people selling things on the Classifieds Forum of this site are NOT a business, and are essentially selling their own personal animals or supplies, there are no rules that they should follow. If they choose to wait a week to respond, then they should also realize that they've probably lost a sale. For example, there is one breeder on this website (most of you know who I am talking about), who is notorious for not responding to messages, e-mails phone calls, etc. He must know that his reputation is getting worse and worse by the minute. He's only shooting himself in the foot by his less-than-stellar response time, if any at all. So, in the end, it's only the seller who's suffering.

Lucky for me i can do that, wait for an email all day at work (chained to a computer). But I do know some people have a life away from the computer, and now that i'm on dial up i won't have the instant access to email like i used to. so prompt replies may not be as prompt as they used to be...

I never said that it wasn't a rude thing to do. But some people are not in the reptile biz and as a side-line has side-line slack rules...rude or not

ok so responding to an email in a 24 hour period means that im unreasonable sorry but i dont expect you to sit by the computer and wait for emails but if you put the ad up you'd think youd be expecting emails so if your expecting them its only common sense that the people emailing you expect the same in return

...

Also could be email accounts. @shaw has had a problem with sending to @hotmail accounts for 20 days or so now. Nothing a reptile breeder can do about that. I mean, we have power, but not that much power! LOL!

I get 10 emails/day minimum about people wanting animals. Unless I'm out of town (reptile show, vacation, life) I answer them all within a 12-hour period. But think about a guy like Ralph Davis. He didn't check his email for 3 days and he had 740 emails from people wanting Ball Pythons! That is just crazy!

And on the flipside, I have had multi-email conversations (over 15 emails both ways) with people wanting animals, only to have them say "I decided to get something else, thanks for your time". I'm not talking 2 or 3 emails. I'm talking like 15 with me sending pics of step-by-step cage setups, what to feed the first 2 years of life (entire food schedule), upwards of 15 pics of the animal(s) etc etc etc. And then one day they say "no thanks". I could have sold the animal(s) 4 times over like a week earlier. So it goes both ways. EASILY.
