stupid question

okay, not to sound ridiculous, but i was hoping someone here could answer a question for me.

WHAT oh WHAT are the squarish holes around a BP's mouth called, and what is their function? i'm unable to locate this information, and i'm so curious.

thanks for any info anyone can provide!

They are heat sensing pits.... for sensing the body heat of prey. Not a dumb question. You didn't know, so you asked.

Asking questions is the best way to get answers

Check out some pics of tree boa species...they really have well defined heat pits.

I know what you mean, you hear about heat pads but you never see any pics with arrows pointing to them so you know where they are!

Ummm... heat pads and heat pits are two different things...

Heat pads are under-tank heaters...

Heat pits are explained above...

LOL, so true. My bp occationally gets a hair in there while crawling up my arm. She jerks back really fast and looks for a different route.

Yup, as forementioned above, they are heat sensing pits. They can be found in all boids except for Womas and Blackheaded Pythons.

The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked
