gotta read: location. location, location !

We often see in the forum people asking for prices, availabilities, etc...

- How much should I pay for a cornsnake ?
- Where can I get live mice ?

And it's really hard to answer such questions without knowing where you're from.

It lengthens the post for no reason when someone need to say " hey ! where are you from ?...

Worst.. when someone is selling in the classified.. you see an interesting add and you need to write to that person simply to know where they live. It's really a pain.

Please put in your location, it's not like if this is a really personal information like telling us your home adress.

just take a minute to go:
Profile / Edit Profil / location / submit modification

thanks all !

WYZ

p.s.: those who think this is important, please post a short reply in order to keep this post in the "newest posts" for at least a day

I totally agree. A cornsnake might cost 35 US dollars in the states, while the same corn of the same morph and size might cost you 80 bucks here in Canada. Its extremely important to mention location in these types of posts if people want a good answer.

For what it's worth an adult "normal" is about £40-60 (G.B.pounds) over here in the U.K. - comparable with the Canadian price I guess. We don't get many in the wild; they'd need to wear rain hats & wooly jumpers!

Could this be the begining of a possible new forum topic? I am forced to give up my snakes, and I know the price that I bought them for in FL was different up in CT. I think something like that would be helpful.

Totally agree. If someone doesn't like to give out personal info, you can even give an area where you are located, not the exact municipality

jncolcub,
Market price doesn't vary from state to state, just country to country

Glade’s herp is the industry standard (www.gherp.com). The price they quote on the “green” list is the fair market retail price. Take that price and divide by 2 and you get the wholesale price.

Yeah, some classified ads are a pain in the nuts. When people look at these ads they are looking for a good person-to-person deal on a herp. If, to start with, the price isn't listed then the ad is essentially useless. So you have a neonate corn or a 15' retic, who cares if I don't know how much you want for it?? Give me some indication of whether I'm going to get a deal or if you're out to lunch. This is also why location is so important to include, shipping greatly effects the total cost of the animal in question. If you want to sell your animal then tell me what it is, how much you want and where you are. These "I have a snake, make me a serious offer" people won't sell a thing. Here's an offer, give me the snake and I'll teach you how to write an ad. A picture would be nice too but without the basic info you might as well tack up signs all over town saying "snake for sale" without leaving even your phone number. Maybe there should be a poll asking how many people have ever bought anything in response to an ad that doesnt tell you price or location. I suspect the number is very close to zero. Sorry for the rant but when you have a slow internet connection the ads that are a waste of time start to get to you.

If you look hard enough, it says the location, of course granted they provide one in the personal information section of the site.

I agree though, stating location is extremely important. Almost as important as stating what you are selling.

Mousekilla, you're sooooo right !

I was gonna add comments about classifieds in my post, but really glad you added them !

And, concerning the classifieds... I'd like to add even if it as nothing to do with the "location issue". When you say PM or email to get pics... can you send them ??!! I often reply to adds and get no respons, why do people put adds if they don't reply ? it's basic good manners. Even if it's sold, just reply and say SOLD.. take 3 seconds.

yeah, that deal for a corn snake might not be such a deal when you have to tack on 100$ for shipping.

I use AOL and I know it acts up a lot. I'm in the process of selling my snakes and people keep making reference to emails they have sent me. I double checked my profile, my email address is listed correctly, but I have not seen one email. I get the PMs just fine, but I don't know why I'm not getting emails. May be there's a fluke somewhere. ? Otherwise I have responded back to every PM I've gotten.
