Heating an Enclosure

Currently I am using infrared spot lamps to heat the warm side of my enclosures. I have read from a few other people not to use infrared. Is it alright to use infrared, and if not why?

I used infra red and still use it for leos
thing is to have it far from them (18"+)
and use a dimmer + probe thermometer to get the actual
temp under the spot.
Infra red get hot (65C+)
so using a dimmer (3$) and a probe thermometer (10$) is good
