substrate convert

Eyespy, just wanted to let you know that after reading your recent posts on the perils of sand I have switched my beardie to a coconut fibre substrate. I always thought sand impaction had to do with the size of the lizard, but your explanation of chronic impaction cleared that up. He was on sand for two years, just wondering if there is a way to clear out any sand that may be in his system now? For anyone that is interested, I used Eco Earth coconut fibre bedding. It is made by Zoo Med and although their website didn't say it wouldn't cause impaction I looked up Bed-a-Beast which is the same thing made by a different company and it says it is guaranteed not to cause impaction. I used 4 bricks to make a 2 inch layer on the bottom of a 5ft x 2 ft enclosure. It cost about $18 Cdn. It takes time to dry it all out and starts out fluffy but packs down a little over a few days. He doesn't seem to mind the change at all. Thanks very much for the info:-).
