Raising silkworms

I was thinking about trying to raise silkworms to feed as a steady diet along with crix. to my leos. I have found places to buy silkworms, and silkworm cultures. But i'm wondering if anyone knows how to breed and raise them or maybe knows a website i can look at myself. I have never used these but i do have some ordered that should be arriving anytime now. I have heard very good things about them and i would like to try. Thanks for any info.

Jamie

i heard raising silk worms is pretty hard to do. you need mulberry leaves for feeding or the feed thats been talked about. ive never done it but this summer i will be planting and raising mulberry trees (off of a few we have in our yard) so hopefully by winter i should have a few saplings growing

There's banner on this website for a silkworm breeder site, www.silkworms.ca i'm pretty sure, and they sell silkworms and food and you can probably email some one from silkworms.ca and ask how to properly take care of and breed silkworms.

JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CATAPILLER THEY EAT N EAT N EAT THEN SPIN CACOONS TURN INTO MOTHS , DO THE DIRTY DEED LOL. LAY EGGS AND DIE EGGS HATCH STARTS OVER AGAIN SOUNDS EASY BUT YOU NEED THE RIGHT FOOD, MULBURRY LEAVES, PLACES FOR THE ADULT TO LAY HER EGGS. I USE TO CATCH CATAPILLERS AS A KID AND KEEP THEM. IT IS EASY BUT WITH SILKWORMS IT IS THE FOOD THAT IS SO SPECIALIZED THAT MAKES IT HARDER . I DONT THINK IT IT SHOUD BE TOO HARD THEY HAVE BEEN RAISING THEM FOR A LONG TIME IN JAPAN I'D SAY GIVE IT A TRY HAVE FUN WITH IT I AM THINKING OF TRING IT THEY SELL THEM AT THE REPTILE SHOW IN HAMBURG CHEEP

GOOD LUCK WITH IT :bounce:
