Microscope shots: Fruit Flies
Here are some pics i took of a wingless fruit fly under the microscope. As you can see i have a lot to learn about putting on a cover slip.
Enjoy!

Thanks. its squished because i cant put on cover slips worth ****. They are those little square peices of glass that you out onto you slide. You should have seen the blood come from some of those things!

It's not so much that you can't put cover slides on well, it's that anything that's substantially thick will get squished under a cover slide...flies for example, lol
I had a lab this past semester where we couldn't even use coverslips on volvocales (microscopic, multicellular protist-type things) because it would squish them, and they were only a few cells thick, a fly is much thicker...you should try looking at them without a coverslip (dead ones, of course).

Good point and i tried that out. First problem i had was trying to kill a fly without squishing it. second probem i had was when i looked at it because it is so thick i could only focus on a little ring of the fly, if that makes sense.

You might try killing it by capturing and waiting. I know, slow death but there's not much else you can do.
