growth rates

I've got two red foots, (named Sakura and Ume just in case you're curious) and their about three years old now. The thing is there both getting big, its just that one (Sakura)is growing at a much faster rate! I'd say hes about a good centimeter and a half, (maybe two) bigger than the other. I got them as hatchlings and they've been together for the whole time so the conditions, food,etc. should be the same. Any ideas?

Is one male and one female? Females tend to be bigger. It also takes a few years for red foots to approach sexual maturity. So it might not be noticably different until then. If they have adequate nutrition and vitamins, Uv lighting etc. if they have everything you could possibly provide then don't worry about it. They are fine.

Judging by the development of the tail area I'm thinking they're the same sex. But hey, it might be too early tell, huh?

Exactly! Tortoises are long lived and do not reach sexual maturaty as quickly as most reps. I honestly think if all the husbandry needs are met then you have nothing to worry about. Red foots are great!

Different animals have different metabolism's just as you and I would differ. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about in that regard.

Sexing Red Foot Tortoises is a guessing game until they grow to around 8 inches SCL, if they are smaller than this, don't get too concerned with what sex they look like
