Hey, your right it is a Mehelya capensis, it lacks the vertibral cream stripe which I think makes it even cooler.

I am located in North Georgia, YEE-HAW.
That is the U.S.A. Georgia not the Soviet one. I aquired it along with quite a few other South African snakes well over 5 years ago maybe even longer when they allowed a small # of exports out suposedly legal but the exporter was soon shut down. I believe ther is no hope of ever getting a male.

I think that there are several species (or sub-species, I can't remember) of Mehelya, at least one of which is lacking the vertebral stripe.
Nice animal. I know that at least one breeder in Africa is working with Mehelya capensis.
Those and Mole Snakes (Pseudaspis cana) are on my list, although it doesn't look like I'll ever find any here in Canada, either.

Enjoy that snake!

The pic is of a Philothamnis semivariegatus I believe that is the proper spelling, and yes East Coast reptiles in South Africa is working with the Mehelya capensis but getting permits for them to export out is a long way away.
Thanks!
