New to herping. First snake forum.

Hello all. My daughter actually got me into snakes. So I've had to learn all I can to make sure her snake gets all the best care. She recently picked out a year old Coral Motley Snow Corn at a local reptile expo. The family has fallen in love, she's darling. I'm still learning a lot but I'm glad to have a community to glean knowledge from.
Last weekend while visiting a friend her children were out catching garter snakes and had a bucket full very quickly. Needless to say they weren't being the best snake handlers. So I started talking to them about snake care and informed them that snakes have value. After a bit I asked them if I could buy one from them. After we agreed on a price and with more talking they decided to let all the rest go because they didn't have the things needed to care for them. They were over the moon about the sale and learned how to be gentle and handle them with care.
Now I have a baby snake. I have had luck with guppy feeders and they snake is very tame and inquisitive. The only problem I am having is identifing the snake. I thought it was a common garter, but after many internet searches I cannot seem to find one colored or patterned like this one. I'm beginning to think it is a lined snake. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not going to be able to help with IDing the snake.

I'm just hoping following proper quarantine. Otherwise your corn snake is now at risk of any potential illness or parasites the garter may have brought home.

In all honesty, keeping wild caught species is a bad idea. Especially considering how readily available captive born animals are.

Thank you for all the input. I have identified it as a North Western Garter snake. I understand (now) that wild caught snakes are frowned upon. As a newb. I do have some questions. Would any of us have snakes without them ever being "field caught"? As I looked to buy snakes on line, found several types of garter snakes for sale that were "field caught", quite common for the species. This is a baby. I have two separate tanks and spaces for these snakes. The snake eating well, active and content. Will take to the vet for proper vacs and deworming if needed. Again I understand the issue. Not trying to offend. Corn snake is amazing, eating great and lovely.
