Baby carpet python escaped...

The night before last, my baby jungle carpet python, Ron, got out of his enclosure! I’ve been searching through my room, but I can’t find him... I’m worried he’s left my bedroom as there was quite a bit of time between me finding out he’d escaped (and he probably got out while I was sleeping...) and me realizing that he could get out of the gap under my door and blocking it. He’s just over the length of my forearm, and yesterday was his feeding day. I left a brained f/t fuzzy mouse out for him on a paper towel near the vent (I thought it would be nice and warm that way) but he didn’t touch it.

I’m flying across the country on Monday and won’t be back for two weeks, and I live in an apartment so I can’t tear anything up. My roommates have ferrets and I’m terrified for him I’m going to leave water out for him in multiple rooms and set out bottle traps, but I’m worried it won’t be enough.

How long will he survive? What else can I do while I’m away? I have a roommate keeping an eye out for him as well. I’m really worried about him— I was just bawling my eyes out.

That sounds like a Ron kind of thing to do.

There have been like 5 threads recently dealing with escapees check those out for more immediate help.

That's pretty lucky congratulations! Can I ask where he was?

The best way to find an escaped snake is to find it pretty much within a few hours. I have my own personal horror story (literally just never finding it in the middle of winter) that I don't like to tell that's from my childhood and a funny escape that led to my brother screaming like a girl on a recliner and flipping it to people who've just lost a snake. The important thing is recognizing how it got out and correcting it.

For me it means that I double check the cage for human error. IE, the snake that scared my brother I flat out just left a screen cage half open and it got out in the night. For the first one, I'm honestly not quite sure how it happened.

But what this does for me now is that I always double check after every water change, feeding etc.

That’s a good idea. In this case he got out while I was trying to fix his broken screen top (temporary grow-out enclosure, my house doesn’t get very dry). Since he isn’t very strong yet I left a heavy coat on top as a substitute, which as it turns out was a really dumb idea.

I need to know more about that second story!

He was inside an unopened box of hangers, which was pretty much the one place I hadn’t looked. I decided to hang up some clothes that I’d put outside while looking for him, and lo and behold there he was curled up in the box!
