I actually managed to pass up on some snakes!!
Damned hard it was too. Had the option on a pair of Jamaican boas (Chilabothrus subflavus). Very rare snakes and very beautiful.
Also on a proven pair of macklots pythons (Liasis mackloti) - Wetar Island locality.
All offered at an extremely good price as I know the seller very well but I am now at a sensible limit and I want to be able to enjoy my modest collection without it essentially becoming a second job and for it to remain affordable.
I also want to concentrate on getting all my enclosures as good as I possibly can and maybe once I've done that I'll see if I can fit anything else in but until everything I currently have is in the best adult vivs I can do that's definitely it.
Quite proud of myself

Re: I actually managed to pass up on some snakes!!
I heard from someone with a good size collection of Haitian boas that they're generally pissy critters. Are the Jamaican boas any different? They're all the same genus, the Dominican red mountain boas being a notable exception regarding temperament.

Re: I actually managed to pass up on some snakes!!
I have a Cuban who for the species is pretty chilled but they're generally musking, stinking hateful things.
Jamaicans by all accounts are much better and exceptionally rare. CITES I. Would have been nice to work with them and try and breed them but it really isn't the right thing to do at the moment.

Well certainly not increase the costs I currently face at least!
I'm still going to see the Jamaicans tomorrow at the expo but will resist.
Got so many bits and bobs to buy to set the new vivs up that I won't have the funds for animals luckily

Re: I actually managed to pass up on some snakes!!
Congratulations! It's very easy to get into a collecting mode, especially when you see something that you'd really like. Like you, I try to keep my collection at a very manageable level where I can properly care for all my snakes without it becoming too much of a chore where it is no longer fun, but work. I have one enclosure that has been open for over six months, but I've finally found just the right snake and I'm just waiting for a particular snake to be ready to be sold and shipped.

Yep - I've decided there's always 'one more' so I'm going to be strong.
I have managed to put together a collection I never thought possible when I first started out and I've got pretty much every species I wanted and some I didn't even really know existed so I'm happy.

I feel like I'm congratulating you on not doing drugs for a few months lol. Good job on the restraint.

Re: I actually managed to pass up on some snakes!!
Thank you - that is how it feels! I successfully went to the expo and only came home with dry goods (ok lots of dry goods but they're all needed!).
I'm happy though with where I'm at. Any more snakes at the moment and I wouldn't be able to keep them how I want and would have to start compromising.
