Mangrove Monitor

Well, I suppose this will be the thread for my new monitor. I was getting rid of my male bredli python and someone offered to trade.... I was originally looking at ackies and timors but I couldn't say no He's temporarily in an exo terra while the lid to his actual cage (150 gallon rubbermaid trough) is being sealed. He's a quick little guy, but super cool and I can already see how different they seem than other animals. Anyway, here's a couple quick pics. More to come as he settles in

Can't use photobucket any more to post pictures unless you pay $399 a year

That's awesome. Really nice lizard and good to see something different.

Re: Mangrove Monitor

I will call him/her Cuddles, and give lots of hugs and squeezes... I think NOT. Cool lizard, but not so much for handling?

Re: Mangrove Monitor

Thanks everyone Super excited to start working with him and finish his cage. He ate a f/t hopper mouse yesterday, thats what he's used to eating so thats what I offered. Hoping I can get him to eat fish, I was told he's a little picky

Re: Mangrove Monitor

Haven't been on here for ages, but well done on the new monitor.
They definitely are not handlers, lol. You will find he/she will hide away a lot. Try prawns as well as fish.
I have never had one, but a friend of mine has one, and he has passed on his experiences.

Thanks for the tip He is definitely very shy and reclusive, but seems he's coming around. He at least isn't taking off so quickly when I open the enclosure, and he lets me put my hands in there and near him more. Let me pet his tail the other day

As far as diet goes....he eats everything....lol. So far he's taken shrimp, chicks, mice, ground turkey, chicken gizzards and eggs. Planning on mixing more seafood into his diet once I'm able to find a source for it.

Here's a few more pics
