Talking Humid Hide

I've had my little Klim since Dec 2016. He has shed every month since we got him. Prior to the humid hide he only had one clean shed. And I would have to help him get the old skin off. I made him a humid hide, which did take him a couple weeks to find but he did. And wow this guy had a great shed this month. Thank you all with for the great advice. This was a perfect shed!

Re: Humid Hide

Depending on the size of your snake, you can use anything that is fully enclosed and will not be affected by the high humidity. For my baby BRBs, I use large plastic index card boxes. They are about 8 inches wide, 5 inches deep and 5.25 inches tall. I just cut an appropriate sized hole at the font corner of the box, about 1/2 inch from the bottom, added moist sphagnum moss and they love them. I will make larger humid hides for them as they grow. Every shed has been perfect.

Re: Humid Hide

I use a humid hide with my Cali Kingsnake. Only ever had one shed not come off in one piece so far (a bit near the end of her tail retained, but I was able to easily slip it right off).

Re: Humid Hide

I used a black bowl with a lid that comes off, added sphagnum moss that had been soaked in water and squeezed out some. I added a few pebbles in the bottom, bought in the decorating section and washed with soap and water. He just seems to love it. I added a fake vine on top and fake grass in front of it so it blends well, looks natural and makes him feel more secure.

Re: Humid Hide

My King and Corn just dive to the bottom of the Sphagnum moss bowls that I put in their cages. They sit there for days, except for when I evict them to re-soak the moss, and all sheds have come off w/o any issues.
