Best wood for KSB rack

So, I want to build a rack that would hold 4 adult KSB, 1 adult BP, and 20 slots for baby KSB. I plan on putting the BP in the top slot and using pvc for the top shelf since the humidity for her would be a bit higher and may damage wood. For the rest of it, however, what type of wood would you suggest and what thickness would you suggest? Thanks

Have you considered melamine?

Yeah, but I've heard that it's really heavy, would you suggest that maybe I reconsider it?

I like the idea of it... It's supposed to be easy to clean, holds moisture without warping...
