Service Snakes???

I was doing a lot in my snake room this morning when it dawn me how much fun I was having; and if it ever gotten taken away from me, how it would bum me out... Then I thought service snakes!... If we can have service dogs, then why not snakes?
Is there such a thing already?

That would be cool; To raise consciousness about snakes... I just may ask my doctor to do the paperwork on it... They did for my dog! That way if my apartment manager fines out and goes NO NO... I can at least have a fighting chance... When we moved in here they waved the $300 pet deposit for my dog, and the $25 a month fee, for god knows what else... SO HEY! Why not a snake???

Re: Service Snakes???

The rescue centers usually do this sort of thing but you would need insurance public liability,

0.1.1 Royals 1.o Corn 1.0 Boa 1.0 carpet and a mad Cat

I am sure if I wanted insurance for it I could get it... But it's not required... If one of my animals hurts someone i'll just get sued, and i'll in up on Judge Judy!

Re: Service Snakes???

Snakes cannot be registered as a service animal, in order to be a service animal it has to be trained to do a very specific action, such as seizure alert. Snakes cannot be trained, so they cannot be a service animal.

Snakes can be emotional support animals, but their status is not legally upheld and you cannot take them to public places or have your landlord accommodate the ownernship of your animal like with a service animal.

In England snake and all animals are known as picture animals and you cannot be evicted for haveing them so get a rescue one and help them

OP lives in America, so that's completely irrelevant. What on earth is with this random radical rescue crusade you're on? This is like the 4th thread you've commented on in the same manner. Snakes aren't put into rescues nearly as often as cats or dogs are, and many of them come with complicated health issues that the average (beginner) keeper simply is not equipped to deal with. I can understand the sentiment to rescue, but rescues aren't really out there (comparatively), and aren't the best choice for people just starting out.

I live in England and I have no idea what you're talking about! If you rent privately and your contact says no pets then no pets it is whether you've bought them, stolen them or rescued them.

Re: the insurance thing. This is relevant in the uk at least if you were say taking your reptiles into schools or other events where the general public would be in case they were bitten. The way these things are you would be pretty much required to show you had insurance to get through the door.

You don't need PL just to own a snake. (Note I'm an insurance underwriter specialising in certain classes of liability so have a fair degree of knowledge on the subject)
