Snake names and their story's!
I got to thinking how my 3 snakes got their names and thought it might be interesting to start a thread on it... So here I go...
I started about 6 months ago when I bought my first snakes; two albino checkered garter snakes. We never did settle on names for them... It went from Romeo and Juliette to Bonnie and Clyde if you get my drift? As it turned out I was not having the snake experience I wanted... I was having to separate them to feed them; fresh Rosie red Minos twice a week... So off to the pet store twice a week and for what a couple of glorified worms... but I was committed...
It was at this point I had finely talked my wife into letting me sell my 12 string Martian guitar... So I could buy George... Now Most of you may never had heard this song but! it gets stuck in my head now and then... It goes!
George, George, George of the jungle; blind as he can beeee!
George, George, George of the jungle look out for that tree...
Right around the same time I received George in the mail from a breeder, I traded Jack and Jill{or what ever their names are} for Ralph my JCP... Ralph got his name from a Cheech & Chong skit about two dogs talking about a poodle named Fe Fe... and then after naming two snakes old man names, I had to follow suit and name my Taiwanese beauty Fred; after Fred and Ethel on the I love Lucy show.
Now in conversations with my wife, she couldn't keep track of who I was talking about... And saying the retic, verses the carpet wasn't working... and then trying to call this beautiful Taiwanese beauty snake a rat snake just doesn't seem right... So to get descriptive for my wife and my self they became!
Gorgeous George
Rowdy Ralph
& Fancy Fred
This is my store and i'm sticking to it... Your turn...

Re: Snake names and their story's!
I should probably clarify something before I get in trouble here... For those of you that have garters, and love them, I apologize for call them glorified worms... I have to admit a week right before the exchange, I started getting fond of them... I mean I did feed the little guys for about four months... But I am not a little snake guy as it turns out. Just wanted to clear that up a little...

Re: Snake names and their story's!
Corn snakes - all have names relating to fire in one way or another. Bridget (Celtic goddess of the hearth and forge), Dante (reference to Dante's Inferno), Dragon, Blaze, Ember and Star (fairly self-explanatory)
Ball pythons - all named after superheroes. Quicksilver, Static, Oracle and Storm
Russian rat snakes - Odysseus and Penelope, after the couple from Homer's Odyssey, and Circe after the enchantress from the same story
Milk and western hognose snakes - geographically appropriate. Rosita, Cociyo (serpent god of rain and lightning), Diego
Black milk snakes - named after constellations. Andromeda, Perseus, Cassiopeia and Orion
Neon blue California red-sided garters - they are flashy. Elvis and Vegas
Woma python - named for her "eyebrow" markings that grant her a permanently tragic expression like that of J.W. Waterhouse's Ophelia paintings. Ophelia

Re: Snake names and their story's!
I didn't have a choice. My little boy wanted to call my boa Auntie Rachel after his favourite teacher at nursery.
You try and convince a 3 yo to change his mind on such matters.
It's the same reason we've got a female cat called Ben...
