Red-Bellied Snake?

I could be wrong on the type of snake, but we only have 4 native species here. One perk of living here is I can catch snakes without really worrying about being bit. Unless someone released a venomous snake I guess. Unlikely.

Anyways, not sure how my mom spotted this little one but she did! I, of course, carefully caught it and took some pics then let it go. Lovely little fella and the first non garter that I've caught!

I've got really small hands so he may look a bit bigger than he is.

Re: Red-Bellied Snake?

Used to see Eastern Redbellies everywhere here. The last few years, however, they have all but disappeared. Nice find!

Re: Red-Bellied Snake?

Very cool! Used to find a lot of the Texas version of that little guy Storeria dekayi texana. Like the previous poster suggested, they used to be everywhere but I haven't seen one in awhile.
