Question Is this normal

I recently picked up a beautiful male Columbian red tail boa from a co worker, now I have heard that red tails are "escape artists" but mine is always looking for a way out. I want to know if its because I have a female dumerils boa in an enclosure next to him. If so should I put something up so they cannot see each other, or is it OK to have them in eyeshot of each other. I figured since they were 2 different sub-species that they might try to attack one another through the glass but my dumerils isn't really phased by him. Also my red tail has a bit of a temper, I do not know if its because the previous owner mishandled him or did not give him the attention he needed, but does anyone know any good tips for his aggression/defensive behavior?

Re: Is this normal

All snakes are escape artists. Some are just less subtle about it than others. Make sure your lid is well secured, and that you've given the room a once-over to block escape routes in case he does get out.

The other snake should not be drawing his interest.

The only way to tame a snake is over time, via regular, gentle handling, to gain its trust. Some never tame down, but most will.

Good luck!
