New Ball Python trying to escape new enclosure. Normal or not?

I have finally got my Ball Python all set up. The cage isn't as big as I wanted it to be (has a floor space of slightly larger than a 10 gallon tank, which I've been told by everyone is fine for him right now)

I have him 2 hides, one on the cool side and one on the slowly warming hot side and a water dish that he can fit into.

Though for about the past 4 hours he has done nothing but try to escape with little 5 minute breaks in between. He hasn't completely gone into his hides, nor curled up/hid at all.

Is this normal behavior and will it go away? or is there something I'm doing wrong?

I see you posted this at 3:17 am.

Ball pythons are active at night. They do explore and move about as you've described. I've also found that snakes in new enclosures tend to do a little more searching around. Probably to ensure safety of all the new smells.
