Using a UTH on top?

Below is a pic of my enclosure. I'm about 6-8 degrees short of my target temp using heat tape on the top back screen. Enclosure is 12x12x18H. I have a piece of 1/8" thick Plexiglas taped down above the screen to help trap in the humidity that I need. I was thinking of using a UTH and sticking it to the Plexiglas to increase my heat. Using a thermostat of course. I have this enclosure in a tight spot since it's front opening and not much room above it to mount lighting so I'm using a thin LED strip. So that won't at any heat.

Think using a UTH on top would work?

Re: Using a UTH on top?

I'm using 4" 6 watt heat tape on the back half screen. I see reptile basics has a 6" 12 watt. Would 6 more watts and 2 more inches bump up the heat?

Hmmm, what's the overall room temp?

Youre going to have a lot of wasted heat mounting it on top. It will bump ur temps but prob not as much as you want. try putting it on the side or back glass (back may not be ideal with the background you've got). I've done that in the past with good success.

Re: Using a UTH on top?

the way i set up cages like that using heat tape, mind you it's 24x18x24 cages but.
I used 3 pieces of 12x12 heat tape wired together one top rear corner..
you can see the rear back on in this picture, then another one on the rear left side wall and top rear corner. This gives me a nice fully heated top corner, i think each 12" is 23W
so i get 69W of heating for 15$ versus a 100$ 40W heat pannel.
I only do this to save $$, heat pannel are way better but i must admit that this set up works extremely well..

so maybe getting some on the side as mentioned and maybe even the back would bump it up to where you want it. Some LED ligts do produce a little heat, adding some for daylight could help for daytime and then you would get a natural night drop that isn't to much when the lights go out and the heat tape keeps cozy..
