Hi everybody, I'm moving my first steps with my first Boa And first snake, we can't say the same for her for obvious reasons. :P
I wonder how I should interact with her, do I have to... make her (gently) understand who's the boss or should I just go along with her wishes?
When I lift her I have the impression that if I hesitate she goes on alert, I think they can smell fear from very far.....
There is no 'dominating' a snake. Neither of you are truly 'the boss'. Respect her and handle her kindly. If she hesitates, don't pull away, just stand your ground.
I have heard of some people using scent conditioning by rubbing a bit of cloth on themselves then leaving it in the tank so the snake is familiar with your scent. This will not make her less shy when going to pick her up though as she will see hand movement.
