Mine get out semi regularly (sometimes without me even knowing until I find them in a place they shouldn't be lol).
Best advice is that if it's in a room, keep the door closed, then, wait till its night time and go in, turn the lights off, and wait to hear something.
They like to hide in, under, and behind ANYTHING they can squeeze inside, the tighter the better.
I have never caught an escapee by putting out food or a heat source. It was always timing.
