Re: can i take my snakes to a regular vet

Hello,

I am from Cyprus and i am dealing with snakes the last 2.5 years. As far as i know there are not exotic vets in my country so i am the vet of my snakes. Forums and good books helped me all the way. When you are saying is breathing weird what do you mean? What 's the temp in the hide?

Re: can i take my snakes to a regular vet

I would go to an exotic species vet if possible, but definitely go to someone. I would also check the conditions in your setup and make sure everything is correct for your snake. Not going in the hide could indicate that temps are not correct in the hide. You should have 2 hides, one on the warm side and one on the cool side. The snake being cold is a reflection of conditions. Snakes are cold blooded and will be the temp of the surroundings, so if your cage temps are good then the snake will be good also.

Post pics or describe your setup so folks can give advice.

There should be exotics vets in the UK. There are a few members here from your area that I'm sure will be on soon and maybe can help.
Instead of flicking water in his face why not just increase the heat in the entire tank?

What is "Very warm". If we can we'd like to help if it's just a husbandry issue. Can you provide us with the cage temps, how they're measured, how they're regulated, how it's heated, and the humidity?

So far we have all said exotics vet is better. If you have a regular vet that happens to see snakes in his practice then bring him. He needs to be seen soon.

Re: can i take my snakes to a regular vet

you need a normal vet with reptile experience mate.....

or if your lucky a proper reptile vet (there's not many around though)

please stop flicking water at your snake to get him to use a hide you think he should be using.....

the snake knows what's best re thermoregulation

all your doing is causing unnecessary stress to the snake.you may even stress him enough to stop him feeding

as long as your temperatures and husbandry is correct.then your snake will use the part of the tank that suits it's needs best at that moment in time

cheers shaun
