please help worried about my baby!!!!! :(

Ok so I am a new owner of a pastel ball python I am not sure if it is a male or female I would love to know! I have tried popping but was scared I would hurt it! So I am worried to death it just had a horrible shed I got some she'd ease and got most of it off. It still has some on its head and eyes! I have put a bigger water bowl and mist it's aquarium and turn it's lamp on! I took her out today to finish getting some off its head and I noticed it's belly was still pink and In one spot it looked weird! It does have an under tank heater but she has been laying on it a month and hasn't had a spot like this! I put many layers of paper towels over the heater and will get something to regulate the temp! I'm just confused if the shed did this or the heater?

Do you know how hot the area over the heater gets while unregulated? Those spots could be burns. Get a thermostat ASAP.

Re: please help worried about my baby!!!!! :(

Most under tank heaters will get to 110+ which WILL burn your snake, have you felt how warm it is with your hand? I would say get a digital thermometer/hydrometer to measure the temps and humidity so you know FOR SURE that it's getting the right care, and of course get a thermostat to regulate the temps. A pink belly could be nothing or it could be something serious, you wont know until you get the viv to the right temps and set up.

Pictures of your beeper and his/her enclosure setup would be helpful.

Please do not try to pop the snake. If you want to know the sex either bring it to the vet or to a breeder that know what they are doing. Yes you can hurt your snake by doing this wrong.

^^^^^
this

if you don't know what your doing you can damage genitals and the spine if this method is done incorrectly

as you do not have a thermostat controlling your heat set up,then there's a high chance it's burnt it's belly

if you could post some pictures people can give you an educated opinion on it's belly

re spot that looks weird
take a picture and give us a description of the spot your worried about

if its a burn it will dry out and scab over, scabs tend to get knocked off, sometimes leaving raw graized flesh,as long as it's kept clean and infection free, they clear up nicely after a few sheds

cheers shaun

P.S.ALL heat sources must have a thermostat, other wise you risk cooking your snake or even burning your house down, heat mats without thermostats can burst into flames

DO NOT USE TAPE

you can damage the eyes lenses

please come on here and ask sadvice before you try invasive methods to treat your snake.....

as there's a lot of bad advice on the internet as well as good advice

i would NEVER suggest using sticky tape anywhere near a snake

cheers shaun

P,S, I'm not being cheeky or having a go at you mate

Tape is big no no with snakes, it can literally peal the skin and scales off snakes. Posting pics and getting educated opinions is fine, but if your actually worried then a vet trip should be your first action. £40 for a check up is worth having peace of mind.

a snake will do just fine with a large water bowl mate

it's best to have a bowl large enough for the whole snake to fit inside,so it has the option of having a soak, should it feel the need

cheers shaun
