Black Mama bite...Wow!
Quote:
Photographer, Mark Laita, is dedicated to his craft, having been bitten by a deadly black mamba snake while attempting to photograph it. Mark captured the image of him receiving a dry bite (no venom was injected into him) from the snake (pictured below) back in 2012

are we sure this is legit? I mean, it doesn't even look like he's trying to move away. Something doesn't smell right here.

Doesn't look photoshopped.... however I guess it's possible it was a venemoid.

Maybe that's it. Looking at the hook it appears he brought the snake to his leg. If that was me, the photo would be blurry as heck from me shaking and being ready to spring out of the way.

Now I'm not one to jump in and say fake to everything! But as someone who uses a camera almost constantly, you do not get a great shot if you think you are getting bit by a venomous snake! I'm not a professional anything (unless mom counts) but no, you get a shaky image. He either knew he was getting bit by a venimoid or it's a really good photo shop. My opinion of course.

I'm starting to think those are two prosthetic legs. Sorry to keep bagging on your post Mikoh. It's an awesome shot of a wicked snake regardless.

Re: Black Mama bite...Wow!
So far as I know, this is real. Several months ago I spoke with someone who was there helping with the animals. The snake pictured was a very old and tractable individual, and the handling techniques used with it were a bit... lax. It was out for a photoshoot and they were taking pictures of the snakes against that black background mat you see there on the floor. The cord running up his leg is, if I remember right, the trigger for the camera pointed down at the background.
The snake was very old and relaxed, and evidently gave him a slow nip instead of a real strike, meaning that its fangs did not penetrate the skin and the photographer didn't notice the bite.
