Amazing Moment!

So, when I first met my wife, she was deathly afraid of snakes. At the time I had a ball python, a king Snake, and a bearded dragon. She would hold the dragon, and wouldn't even come into my bedroom, if the tanks weren't covered. Hated snakes. Didn't want to kill them, just didn't want to see them.

Anyways, after years of working with her, she has finally not only gotten over that fear, but freaking loves snakes. Almost as most as much as I do. This picture was taken just tonight, and this is something I never would of imagined she would of done.

Her love has been evolving over time, not just a sudden change. But to go from where she was, to where she is... Well it's just proof that anyone can grow to love these guys.

Re: Amazing Moment!

I have the same story, my wife would hyperventilate just watching them on tv, she is almost at the point of touching my retic, she can be out around her now and be cool with her, its a work in progress.

I've never understood snake phobias...so awesome when people can overcome them though! I wish more people would give "creepy" animals a chance.

Re: Amazing Moment!

I got my boyfriend into snakes, he wasn't afraid of them but was a little wary and slightly freaked out if they moved too fast. He gets nervous picking up our king snake because he rattles his tail when he is disturbed (he won't even touch our corn snake because she is a real brat and has major attitude), so I always have to grab them out of their enclosures first and then he's ok with handling them lol. I am more hands on with our reptiles so I feel like they recognize me more than they do him. Good job to your wife for getting over her fear! I wish more people in my family would be open to that.

Re: Amazing Moment!

Oh yes. It was an amazing Moment. I get the phobia of snakes, because I am the same way for spiders. Don't like them. At all, but, I don't go out of my way to kill them all.

I have the upmost respect for people who are afraid of something, but don't let that fear turn into an entire hatred of a species.

Re: Amazing Moment!

My fiance used to be deathly afraid of snakes. She would cry and shake whenever I took my CORN SNAKE out. Now a year later, she actually attends reptile shows with me and she'll hold small snakes at least. She's getting there lol.
