Feeding Russian Rat Snake

Hello,
I have a little problem with feeding my rat snake. She now has a year, but it's very small, about 20 inch. So far, I fed her one pinkie per week. From about one month she has become very gluttonous, almost after two / three days already looking for food. I would add that for some time weather got very warmly, as in the summer.
Can I feed her one pinkie everyday if she looking for it, or is it too much for her?

Thanks for any answers, and have a good day!

Re: Feeding Russian Rat Snake

I'm not very familiar with this species but I would think one item per day would be to much for any snake

I would increase the prey size instead of the frequency of feeding. A 20 inch colubrid could easily take down a small-medium mouse.

Re: Feeding Russian Rat Snake

I have a yearling pair of Russians. I am feeding either two peach fuzzys or a hopper once a week. One of the things you have to watch out for with this species is over feeding. One of their best qualities is their willingness to eat, very rarely will they refuse a meal unless they are in shed. I would definitely bump up to at least a fuzzy, especially if your snake is a yearling. Pinkies have very little nutritional value due to the undeveloped skeletal structure they have. Also, Russians are not fans of large prey items so I usually will just add another prey item of the same size for a few feedings before I go up to the next size. Feeding one or two prey items once a week is plenty for them. They are such great feeders that they will eat every chance you give them. So if you feed them every other day like you proposed, you will most likely end up with an obese and unhealthy snake. Hope this helped.

Re: Feeding Russian Rat Snake

Okay, just like I was thinking that every day is not healthy, but I preferred to be sure.
So I will fed her once a week, but the bigger size of mice.

Thank you very much for all the answers!
