Temp guns and readings.

I have acquired an new animal that is coming in Tuesday and getting everything set up, my temp gun says the hot spot is 96, it doesn't feel like 96 to me so I went and got a cup of ice water and it said it was 36 degrees which does sound right, do any of your hot spot ( basking spots) not feel what your temp guns are measuring?

Re: Temp guns and readings.

That's why I never go by feel. Senses can be deceiving, and when I want to make sure of temps, I'll use two different temp guns and a probe thermometer. If they all read the same then I don't care what it feels to me.

My palm reads 92F so I can't imagine 96 feeling that much warmer.

It's probably right I just wanted to see if everyone else has experienced the same, but good idea I'll buy another temp gun in the future

I use two guns, neither of them give the same reading, both were fairly expensive and are accurate enough to where I dont care much. 96 shouldn't feel very hot If I remember correctly. It doesn't feel very hot to me until around 140-150, then I can't keep my hand on it more than a split second.

Typical body temp is 98.6...If you can tell 2.6 degrees by touch...you are my hero.

Reality is you have to trust your equipment. I have a couple temp guns and they vary less than 1/2 a degree. One of them will read over 600 degrees. (I'm spoiled). If you get temps close you will we fine.
