Random BHP shots

I thought I'd get some current pictures of the younger keeper BHPs in the collection to show you guys.

Mandarin (Red line)

Veronica (Pilbara)

ClockWork Orange (Tangerine line)

Pandora (Axanthic)

This is Valentine, my original Lazik west female...still looking great at over 14 years old.

Cheers,
D

Re: Random BHP shots

That's really neat. Is there any beneficial reason for the head to be solid black?

Re: Random BHP shots

Love these. Mikoh, if you grab a BHP by the throat firmly, the head is actually filled with ink and you can write letters to congress with it about snake laws and stuffs.

Humans have theories (Like them using it to bask while the body remains in a burrow) but, from keeping them in captivity for the last 10 years...that theory doesn't hold water. When they bask...they come out just like any other species to do it. They do often sit in their hide box with just their heads sticking out but, I believe that's just them checking out their surroundings (as they only do that when the environment is disturbed..such as cleaning the room, turning on the lights, etc)
in reality, It's just the way they have evolved and may not benefit anything at all.
If anything, I'd say being a burrowing animal, the black head would hide it from predator and prey much better in those dark burrows...but, again...theory.

Haha...that's funny. Best theory yet! I'll have to try....and try not to get bitten doing it!

I hear you guys there. Most of my collection are animals over 8/10 years old.

They're even more expensive and even less in numbers here. Haha.
Myself, Tom Keogan and, one other keeper are the only ones with visible Axanthic's here in the US.
And, Tom and I are Hoarders! LoL.

Thanks for the kind word about the animals...I love em.

Re: Random BHP shots

Those stripes are amazing. You think with selective breeding you can make an all black BHP?

What are bites from these guys like when full grown?

Re: Random BHP shots

Wow gorgeous BHPs. I especially like Pandora and Clockwork Orange. And that black backed one is just insane! Did that just randomly hatch out of a clutch of yours or is it a project that you have been working towards?

You mean like this?.....

I've hatched 2 solid blacks but, they have yet to survive longer than a few hours.

The bites are.....a long battle of getting them off (they don't let go). Like Pit bulls. Haha.

Thus far, I'm the only person in the US that has hatch out solid black stripes down the back. (Australia has a few different lines where this has occurred.

Looking forward to breeding it into the axanthics and albino genes. Fun times for the BHP.
