Pair in 8x4x4
Hi guys,
I only have room for a 8x4x4, and I have 1 sav. I'm so tempted to get a female, but would that cage be too small? If so then I'll just have to live with having 1 sav. Or wait till I am able to accommodate a larger cage.
please advise thx!

Re: Pair in 8x4x4
Looking at my one sav in his 8x4, I think it would be a bit cramped having two in there. I'd love to get a female as well, but unfortunately I don't have any additional space either . Also remember that you need space for two 8x4s just in case they don't get along, or a way to divide one large enclosure. I think it would be best to wait a bit until more space opens up .

Yeah I did, because I only had a 4x2 back then. But I guess even with 4x8 I will just stick with one until I can some how have a bigger cage. I'm guessing 8x8??

I have 2 in an 8x4x4 and advise against it.
Things get a whole lot more complex in there with 2.

Wayne, could you please elaborate on this?? Exactly what problems do you encounter while housing two? I would assume competition for food and dominance would be on the list?? Just curious to know what should be considered, enclousure and compatibilty wise. Is it two males you have? Sorry, but I havn't had time to read all the updates yet . Good thread though!

Re: Pair in 8x4x4
I think it's usually double the space that's recommended- please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
If this is the case, you'd want to shoot for an 8 x 16. Good thing about an enclosure this size is if they don't get along you can always put some plywood in the middle and create two enclosures side by side. You should have the available space for two seperate enclosures anyways just in case they don't get along- unless you know someone already who can take the female if things don't work out .

Re: Pair in 8x4x4
read a couple of publications on Savs breeding, both said that the females became very territorial and aggressive once they had mated - something to consider really, if you want a female then you may want to use a seperate enclosure any way

Re: Pair in 8x4x4
Yep I'll only get an extra one if I have 8x16. Maybe in 5-10 years if I can move to a tropical place and build the cage in the yard. That'll be my dream!

My dream, move to Australia and build no cages.
