Euthanasia ?

Hey guys ! I know this is a touchy subject and not something anyone likes to talk about. My question to everyone is how do you put your animals down? Im thinking about breeding and my biggest fear is not knowing how to put down animals that are suffering or not fully developed. Sorry for the depressing question!

Re: Euthanasia ?

I have a king snake for this very reason. One life ends another is sustained. So is the balance of life. Haven't needed him yet but I did buy him for this reason.

Re: Euthanasia ?

I was trying to post an image but was having problems.

I know a few people that even feed their healthy "normals" of to a monitor etc. I am not sure how I feel about that to be honest.

When it's all about the $ it's easy to do.

Re: Euthanasia ?

Immediate destruction of the brain, feeding to another animal... lots of ways. Never a fun thing to do, however.

Re: Euthanasia ?

I've been fortunate to not need to yet, but a buddy of mine puts them in the freezer. But feeding them to another animal is my plan when that time comes.

This is a really harsh way to kill a snake. You should kick him in the stones.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of his methods.

thats a terrible death, the blood cells freeze and expand, rupturing causing pain and suffering and a slow death

as Kevin (korbin) said a hammer to the head in 1 fast hard blow,is the best way to euthinise a snake...

the brain is crushed before it has time to regisister pain

cheers shaun

I agree, that is the most humane way. Even if I fed it to another snake or monitor I would want to kill it first. I even kill the rats before they are fed to the snakes.

Re: Euthanasia ?

I don't see any difference between breeding snakes as feeders over rats or mice or whatever. A rat keeper would be appalled at a rodent feeder farm. There is very little difference here. If you kept a king cobra what would you feed it? I don't see using normals as feeder being very cost effective but it is in no way different other than what is on the menu.

Re: Euthanasia ?

I would never breed ball python so I would never have any that would need to be euthanasia. Lol
