New camera test shots.

Just got the sony dsc-hx300 and I love it! Takes pretty good pics. Though I still have no clue on how to use it just yet lol. Here are a few that I shot.

Iguana eye. Couldnt get to close to her so I had to zoom in.

Some bird from outside.

And my lab/cat/ chihuahua

canon t5i. I wanted to get a maco lens with it but the lens is so expensive....atleast for me. I'll have to wait and save up. Does anyone know if maco-shots with just the basic lens will work?

The kit lens is an 18-55mm. That will work just fine. I used a 28-135mm and got some close shots, 18mm will allow you to get a little closer. (camera-Object)

Ah I see. I don't know what "x"mm - "y"mm stands for. So the lower the number the closer and the higher the number the further away you can take shots?

I've got the same camera. My only advice, is the more you zoom the blurrier images will get unless they're a few yards away. If you try to do macro shots with it, just get as close as possible.

Personally, I just leave it on intelligent auto. I'm also a very lazy photographer. I don't think about aperture or shutter speeds and exposure... I just let the camera do the work. The only time I switch things are when I shooting something specific, like fireworks, night pictures, or action pictures.

Im not familiar with your camera, So use this information at your disposal.
For macro shots, or closeups, etc, You can mess with your manual modes. A smaller aperture (Eg.Higher aperture number) will give a shallower depth of field (Where say your object is in focus, and anything beyond or infront of that is blurred). When you reduce your aperture you also need to compensate on the other side (Think algebra, Do something to one side, compensate at the other) i.e. Shutter speed/flash. You will need to reduce your shutter speed in order to capture enough light with a small aperture, or you will be under exposed. If its too slow, Over exposure. Mess with it and shoot shoot shoot, and see what kind of results you get and just tinker around till you see how your camera reacts/what works best for the given conditions.
Good luck!

Its not a competition, you can't really cheat :P You can do whatever you want, so long as you don't post classifieds for sale claiming it looks just like the pics hahaha

Re: New camera test shots.

That was confusing lol. What I'm getting from that is that less mm = allows you to take closer photos.

I think that is the common misconception. Basically, the smaller the first number the more wide-angle the lens is, zoomed all the way out. I wouldnt worry about it that much lol, The 18-55 will get the job done and you can get close shots, you may need to back up a little in some cases.

It isnt exactly correct, but just go by the Bold as a general rule
