Crotalus eye candy
Well,
I said no more snakes.....but we all know how that goes. Famous last words! About a week ago, a guy I've known for a few years contacted me asking if I could take his two rattlesnakes because his collection was getting too overwhelming and he was concerned about the two venomous. I agreed, and he said he'd bring them to the Hamburg show. I was helping a friend at his table there, so I was at the show all day. Another good friend of mine was vending at a table across the way, saw me and came over to chat. He asked me if I'd be interested in his 3.5-year-old male Batwing rattler (Eastern diamondback x canebrake cross). I checked it with John, and he agreed. Darren went out and brought the snake in....It is STUNNING! HUGE animal, big flat head, seemed pretty laid-back.
I was thinking the other guy wasn't going to show up, but at the very end of the show he showed up and dropped off the other two rattlers (female albino WDB and male EDB). So, I went home with three new buzz tails, new cages and another big hook.
I'm not sure if I will be able to keep all of these guys...it brings me to 5 rattlesnakes in the house now, but I'm going to definitely let them settle in and make sure everyone is happy and healthy and determine their long-term dispositions before I make any final decisions.
Here they are:
Female albino WDB:
Male EDB (seems to be going into shed):
Male Batwing:

Re: Crotalus eye candy
Honestly, I'm not sure of the total at the moment. I have to go back through and count everything. I think it's around 40 snakes total, 30-32 are hots.
These guys were completely unexpected, but I'm glad I got them. The guy I got the WDB and EDB from is not really skilled enough to be keeping them..he'd had them housed together (bad idea) and tonged them. The EDB has a sore on his neck from being handled too roughly with tongs.
The batwing is perfect...my friend Darren knows what he's doing and took good care of it. It also seems pretty laid-back for a buzz tail.
All three ate for me last night.

Re: Crotalus eye candy
Thanks, guys. I really love rattlers of all kinds. The albino has a really nice peachy-orange tone to her that I hope she holds some of as she grows.

Great looking animals. I really like EDB's, especially right after a shed.

Re: Crotalus eye candy
The male EDB is shedding right now. Because of the inury to his neck, the shed isn't coming off cleanly though. I'm afraid that I'm going to have to tube him and get it off... not something that I am looking forward to.

Beautiful Batwing. I enjoy taking care of the snakes when the need attention. Devising new ways to handle and work with them is challenging. Enjoy them, and be careful.
