Boa DIY Habitat

Guy's could you please post some of your Boa Enclosures and there setup's please. I'm trying to make a Habitat for my Ghost Boa, but haven't a clue in a theme lol

Also is there any tree branches that aren't suitable for Boa's?

How about a ghost/ghoul theme.

Most any branches except certain types of pine will be good if they are disinfected. Do this by putting it in your oven for a while.

Are you looking to build a whole cage from scratch or just build the inerds of the cage like decor and furniture?

Sorry but you are off on this one. Never use pine it's deadly to snakes. As far as how to treat wood your are right on the oven method. Set your over to about 300 to 325. One of the things i do is soak them in light blech water then rinse. Then i put them in the oven the steam helps kill any bugs in the wood.

Really every type of pine is deadly?

Not every but most. It one of those things why chance it. I remember there being a thread on here where they were talking about it. I'll see if i can find it.

Didn't find the one i was looking for but found a better one. Turns out you were right. I know for years everyone always said it was toxic. Wayne set it all straight in this thread.

Yes mate just looking to build the inerds of the cage, want to do a really cool rainforest setup but over here in uk I can't find extra large tree vines and nowhere would ship them over lol want to see what others have done to there's just for some ideas and tips

Idk if you have dollar stores but they have a huge selection of plastic plants.

My boa's cage is pretty uneventful. Lol 3 hides substrate and a couple branches.

I won't be much help el oh el.

Ahh yes the oven would eliminate the toxins that would have any threat to the snake.

I think cedar is still a no no from what I've read.

look up 'drat frog enclosure' and 'rainforest terrarium' in googles image search - it might give you some inspiration, dart frog enclosures espcially tend to be pretty awsome - obviuosly you need to tailor it to a snake

i'm planning on building a tall bio-active rainforest viv for my CRB over the next 18months, cant wait to get started

Will you be using over head heating or under tank heating? Are costa rican boas arboreal/semi-arboreal?

I think CRB is columbian rainbow is it not? I don't believe they are arboreal, but honestly, even the arboreal species.....arboreal setups in most cases are a joke in my opinion. You lose the temp gradient left to right, and if a tree dwelling species needs to cool down, they aren't fond of going to hang on the ground, so a vertically oriented setup with a top down gradient is stupid. Also, a few extra inches of height doesn't make a difference to the snake anyways.

I would absolutely choose width over height, just enough height to provide a higher perch and a lower one, running the width of the cage.

Correct. They are semi-arboreal.

I think for an arboreal setup a heat mat on the side of the cage at a level where the snake likes to sit is your best option but hey I only have heavy ground dwellers.

temperature gradients dont need to go left to right unless it suits the particular species and enclosure

heat panels and under-floor will probably be the option I go with, also water-heaters as I want a large water feature, but we'll see how it goes when its built and into stabilization phase...long way off yet
