Sunglasses for monitors
It's important for humans to wear shades when out in the sun, what about monitors who live in a tank that has UVB lights? It sounds funny but wouldn't their eyes get damaged without sunglasses?

Re: Sunglasses for monitors
Oh snap! That is what I have been doing wrong.
Extreme exposure from some mercury bulbs (I think it has been corrected) has caused eye issues, but for the most part we don't touch the power of the sun or spectrum off light it provides.

Yep
Little things really, like mini 3d glasses you get at the theater. Use a little Scotch tape to help hold them on if needed.

Re: Sunglasses for monitors
Did you really just use a cheapo little UV light to compare to the power of the sun? :sigh:
I only wear sunglasses so I can see when I'm driving, not to protect from UV rays....

Re: Sunglasses for monitors
Any chance that we can answer questions when the truly inquisitive folks post??
To answer the question, Monitors (all of them) have evolved over millions of years to live exclusively on the part of the planet where the sun is the strongest.
Their eyes are well suited for UV radiation...

Re: Sunglasses for monitors
I think the question was absurd the way it was asked, though the idea behind it is something interesting to look into. Surely the monitors don't need sunglasses .......I think since nepoez asked in a comical manner thats why he received comical answers.
Humans don't need sunglasses either, we squint, we have eyebrows and eye lashes, and we don't look directly into the sun if we are smart. If the monitors in the wild with access to the true power of the sun (at the equator and around it typically), than why would the ones with dimpy UVB need it ?

Thanks guys(Infernelis to be specific). But about the humans not needing sun glasses, that's debatable but out of scope for this forum

Re: Sunglasses for monitors
If humans are required to have sunglasses, than I guess I don't believe in evolution anymore.

I am required to wear sunglasses outdoors!
Because of all the drugs i take the optician has advised me to be extremely careful, they relax the muscles in the eye allowing excess light in and can damage the eyeball, anytime i am outside now unless it is really overcast i always wear sunnies.

That's a medical issue that requires you to wear glasses. The average person does not need sunglasses. Yes they help but that's a convince not a need. Every species of diurnal animals survive the sun everyday without sub glasses. The light comes from above and it's rare for anything to stare directly into the sun long (can cause eye damage).
Now in a captive situation we try to replicate but do provide the strength or spectrum light the sun does. We place are lights where they shine down onto the monitor. My monitors rarely look up towards the light just like nature.

That is an important point when placing UV tubes or indeed any tube in a viv always above not directly in line with there eyes that would damage them.
