Just curious on why you chose to use the light, for heating or being able to see better?

A little of both. Gets cold in New England. No part of a Ball Python enclosure should ever go below 75*. I prefer my lowest temps anywhere in the enclosure be 80*. The lamp is maybe 1/4 on with a dimmer.

Re: Lou's house, "Frankentank"

Nope. The lamp is barely on. No smell or discoloration of any kind. HVAC tape is amazing. I suppose if I turned the dimmer up full-blast we might have problems. We trust the tape on the furnaces of our homes, at much higher temps, so... 75 watt IR bulb dimmed down to almost nothing. Enough to bump up the ambient 5* or so. Come spring I'll be putting the lamp away. It's just for these few cold New Hampshire months. Lou has been under it for a month, now. He's doing fantastic!
