usually it's treats...
But tonight, I got a trick...my roommate showed up to the party at our friend's house, laughing, saying that he saw Pajamas in his bathroom. I was drunk enough to be like "whatever"....guess who's not in his cage. *facepalm*
Heating pad out, going to thaw a rat tomorrow and put it in a tub, and hope that sometime tonight he doesn't get smothered or strangled by a startled roomie...in my four years, I've had Oliver escape ONCE. and that was my fault, knew exactly where he was at (not really a secret as his tail was hanging out)...gosh. You'd think I'd be able to find a 6 ft bright *** yellow snake.

Re: usually it's treats...
Someone probably decided to "play" with him and forgot to close the cage correctly. At least that's how it was for me when I used to party. Now I have a lock in his cage.

Re: usually it's treats...
No, my friends are very wary of my snakes, and the party was at another friend's house...=/ once i build his new cage, it will have a padlock for parties.

Re: usually it's treats...
bleh. he's still missing. I've looked EVERYWHERE. =/ My one roomie says I'll only get visiting rights if he finds him xD (which is actually cute, cause he's pretty wary of snakes).
Any suggestions on where to look? I've moved the oven, dryer, looked in both bathrooms, all 3 bedrooms, all electronics...need to move the fridge, but I'm not big enough.

Re: usually it's treats...
Go over the house again like you're looking for a needle in a haystack. You would be surprised at tbe small places they can fit into! Look through boxes, drawers, in the closets really well...its been my experience that they follow walls when they're on the move. Its worth the mess to place flour on the floor along the walls. It will leace a trail. Don't be discouraged if you don't find him in the next day or so. Often they will stay in one spot unless they feel threatened or are hunting for food. Keep water and beat in a dark place that may make a decent safe spot. Another place to look is where ever your hot water tank is and if you have CHA, loom where you replace the filters.
Above all, try to figure out exactly how he escaped and fix it.
Good luck! I really hope you find him soon!

Re: usually it's treats...
yeah, i know exactly how he escaped, and I feel like a horrible owner. My water heater is in the garage, which he can't get to (weather stripping). He should be hungry, today was feeding day...I'm moving him to a sterilite tub when I find him (thank god for christmas season) so he can't escape at all again. I really hope I find him soon...my trick with the rat didn't work today, so I may go get a live and leave it in a dark area with a heat mat to lure him out. I miss my buddy =[
My roomie wants to make sure he can't go down the drain...that isn't possible, is it?

Re: usually it's treats...
He shouldn't be able to with normal drains....the ones that have the little cross bars in them that is supposed to keep large objects from going down and blocking the pipes.
Don't forget to put water out as well.
I would recheck the house everyday too in case he moved to another location. Like I said, they usually travel at night and along the walls. I'd put flour down too.

Re: usually it's treats...
Yeah, but we're up all night xD you'd think I'd see him by now =[ he's got lots of water out, as we have a dog and cat =3 (he has to share...there's no way to keep the cat out of it xD). I'll have to get flour...i don't have any right now, oddly enough.

Re: usually it's treats...
a good way to find escaped snakes,is to sit quietly in the dark and listen for movement, spend a couple of hours in each room, just sitting quietly
other than that a bottle trap is the only other method i've heard being successfull
re drain
if a snake can fit through a hole, then theres a possibility it has went down said hole
i hope you find him soon
all the best,shaun

Re: usually it's treats...
Yeah, i've been trying that. What's a bottle trap? I would be so sad if he went down the drain =/ he was trapped in my roomies bathroom, but when i got therre, he wasn't in there anymore, even though the door had been barricaded.

Re: usually it's treats...
Check around the pipe from the sink. He could be wrapped around it taking in the heat when someone runs the water.

this is the first time I've had one escape and I didn't know where they were...Oliver got out (this was when i fed outside of cages), but he was in the spaces next to the cupboards...took me about six hours to get him out (tried luring him out with a mouse, he struck, wrapped, and then pulled it back inside the cupboards with him xD). So yeah. Frustrations. going to the pet store right now for a live rat and suggestions.

Re: usually it's treats...
I hope you find him soon. The flour is a good idea, but remember to check tiny spaces you wouldn't think they would fit in cuz remember they can fit in surprisingly small spots. Hopefully there aren't any holes in your walls either cuz you wouldn't want him in there.
