Question about mite products
I have been looking through a reptile product company for some things I am not finding in stores. And I was wondering if mite products are the type of things that lasts long enough to just keep some handy "in case" and if that would be an idea.
Also if that would be a reccomendation what do you all think of this particular product? should I get that, or something totally different??

Re: Question about mite products
Reptile relief only works when you get lucky enough to drown a few mites.
Over the years I have tried almost everything, PAM and NIX are the two top contenders for winning the war on mites.

Re: Question about mite products
Either go with Provent-a-Mite or mix your own with Nix. I have had absolutely no luck with RR at all.

No one is a faster draw than Infernalis it would seem!

Re: Question about mite products
wet and rainy ;(
sunny and far too hot to be outside here. I am chillin in the house with the AC on!!
I'll look up both, are they like flea products in that since they are pesticides there is no expiry date? Or is nix maybe better as it sounds like you can mix small batches up when needed?
I only have 2 corns at the moment, but will end up with a baby BP this year and maybe another in the new year.

Re: Question about mite products
a can of PAM can sit on a shelf for a decade or two and still work.
It's chemical poison, it dissolves the exoskeleton and eggs.

well that is always the hope!! But if I learned anything at all from my allergy doggy......... it's better to be prepared for what COULD happen than to scramble around after what HAS happened

Re: Question about mite products
So my MIL bought my daughter a corn and it has mites.
AND this is where I am confused using PAM:
Do I NIX treat the snakes AND use the pam on their enclosures...
OR
Do I JUST use the pam on their enclosures to treat their mites...
I have used the NIX treatment almost exclusively, but my wife recently ordered me some Provent-a-mite to keep me from having to touch permathrin repeatedly. Thanks for all your help in advance.

just use provent a mite on its own mate
it's always worked first time every time for me
it remains active for 30 days so takes care of anything that may be on the snake
cheers shaun

I've used the nix mixture, and it has worked very well.

Re: Question about mite products
My rainbow boa Morpheus had a few mites, caught it before I had a bad infestation on my hands!! Here is what I did. Put Morph in a temporary tub. Cleaned out his enclosure. Put down paper towels as substrate and his hides back in his regular enclosure. Sprayed his regular enclosure with PAM per the instruction. I let the enclosure air out over night. Next day I put Morph's water bowl and Morph back in the enclosure. Misted the enclosure as usual, he needs high humidity. I then took two rolls of papertowels and tore them off in two paper towel sections and put them in a large box. I sprayed PAM inside the box and put the lid on the box. For the next month I used the treated paper towels as substrate and never sprayed the enclosure again. After the month I stopped using the treated paper towels and just went back to untreated substrate. I haven't seen a mite since. PAM is the bomb!!!
