Re: Coastal ??
Honestly with carpets, the only way to know for sure is to know what the parents are. If the guy you got him from said jungle x coastal then thats what I would go with. Either way, thats a real nice carpet.

Re: Coastal ??
Looks more Jungle and Coastal to me, but it's likely a mix.

looks like a mutt to me, but it's impossible to say for sure without knowing the parents.

Re: Coastal ??
As a few people said, it's impossible to tell exactly what locality a Carpet Python is without knowing the genetics behind it. This is a result of people crossing localities when breeding, most likely to breed out morphs (ie jags).
Your Carpet looks like he's a Jungle X Coastal, and trust me, he's a very good looking snake for being a "mutt".

Re: Coastal ??
Pure animals are rather difficult to come by with 100% assurance. Even when a trustworthy breeder says they are pure, there is always a chance someone unknowingly mixed in some blood from another subspecies from a pairing of animals they thought were pure somewhere along the line. The only way to tell for sure is to be able to trace the lineage all the way back to the first imported individuals. There are actually some breeders that can do this, but it's rare. The morph craze is also leading to a lot of intergrades and frankensnakes because people want to combine morphs that arose in different subspecies. The sibs (siblings, clutchmates that do not show the visual color or pattern mutation the breeder was shooting for) are usually indistinguishable from one of the parent subspecies and may get sold and later bred into other lines unknowingly. On top of all this, carpet pythons show some pretty wide variability in color and pattern even in normal individuals of a single subspecies. Some jungles from different localities in the wild also look totally different from each other. I agree you have yourself a lovely snake though.

My Carpet is the same way. He's a bit nervous at first when I scoop him out of his cage but calms down very quickly, he would never ever strike at anything but a rat though.

Re: Coastal ??
You know I have read a lot of stuff about how you can never be sure purity of a carpet but in reality....who cares. I mean unless you just gotta have a pure jungle or coastal for some reason (and yes I do know there are a few valid reasons) then all that matters is if you like it or not right? Also there is debate about coastals and jungles having to close of dna to be considered seperate breeds. To me it looks coastal/ jungle mix but it also looks a bit like a jag sib. Possibly a coastal/jungle/jagsib/genetic emulssion from someones breeding project.
But again. Who cares.. Awesome carpet!!
