Spence takes a bath!

Spence was in shed so I put him in the bathtub for a swim. He enjoyed it until I took my camera out, he didn't want to be seen by others having fun in a bathtub so he kept wanting out.

He's gotten so much bigger already! He's always burrowing and digging. We had a couple of issues that prevented us building his larger enclosure but next week for sure we'll be going out and buying what we need, and bags and bags of substrate. He'll love it.

Also wanted to ask if he's overweight? I put in lots of mealworms in his substrate, not expecting him to eat them all in a couple of days. Plus with all the crickets he's been eating!

And this is one I took just before he blinked, it looks creeped out.

Re: Spence takes a bath!

Not positive but I think it was infenalis who guessed him to be about a year old. And he's in shed, and as I was taking his water bowl out it leaked out and turned all his soil into mud and he burrowed in it. When he came out, it was dried up on him so I wanted to clean him up real quick.

Alright thanks for letting me know. I had only put about an inch or two of water, it was just to get whatever was on him (soil, poop, pee, shed) off of him as I didn't want to rub a towel over him and pull off the skin he's currently shedding in case I'd hurt him.

Re: Spence takes a bath!

He does look a tiny bit overweight, but he could be puffing up, too.

If your enclosure is appropriate, he will never need a bath. It should be humid in your enclosure, but not muddy.

Brady.. Only one documented case, and the kid that owned the lizard left his sav unattended in the tub for almost an hour.

I just wrote my opinion on that over on Kingsnake.

Quote:
I know the story of the drowned Sav, The keeper left that animal unattended in a bath tub for 45 minutes, I feel very sorry for that animal, I can envision it clawing desperately at the walls of the tub trying to get out until if finally collapsed from exhaustion.

Why anyone would leave an animal in a tub with that much water in it and forget that it was there is beyond me.

Even if I was going to advocate soaking monitors, I would only say use an inch or two of water, so the animal can sit comfortably with it's head well above the waterline, certainly not with so much water that the animal is forced to swim to keep breathing, that's just irresponsible and cruel.

Two. The guy who instructed people to to put their monitors in bath tubs to "tame" them lost one by drowning, and almost lost another.

Re: Spence takes a bath!

I'll have to put him on a diet, haha. He's such a porker.

And wow, a whole hour unattended. D:

Re: Spence takes a bath!

Considering that Monitors have been observed swimming across some of the worlds largest rivers, I think the truth about that incident remains obscured.
