Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

...what?

1. How long has the snake been missing? Or was he found in the wild? Look out for any signs of infection. If it's a wild snake, I recommend you return it to where you found it. If you want a snake, you're better off with a captive-bred and born one. How are you housing it?
2. I'm glad you found him, but why on earth hasn't your little brother been taught to respect animals?! Throwing ANY animal is cruel and dangerous.

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

Before we all go postal on thi new member, Dekayi snakes are never offered in the pet trade (sad, they make great pets) with the exception of some captive bred ones I sold a few years ago.

The populations are in no danger if a few people keep them, we have all ran over more of them with lawnmowers than you could care to imagine nor wish to think about.

Who knows, if all goes well with this snake, we may be looking at the next great hobbyist.

Honest truth.. It was a wild caught dekay that started me down the path I am on today. Her name was Xena, and she outlived her expectancy by 2 full years living in my house.

You all would have a different moderator here today had I not decided to keep that little brown snake Samantha found in the back yard 8 years ago.

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

Whether their populations are in danger or not doesn't mean it's suddenly OK to toss a snake around... I was saying that the OP's little brother should be taught how to properly handle a snake, especially if that snake is going to be kept in the same household as the child that threw it. I did not go "postal" on the OP.

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

I never said you did...

I said "we all" didn't I.

Yes it is wrong to throw any animal around, I am very strongly against that.

My sole and only point was that I can forsee a dozen or more posts telling him to release the snake.

If he choses to keep it, and can keep it well, then I say go for it.

that's all.

If I ever have something to say to any one member I will use their screen name in my post.

If there is no screen name in the post, it can be automatically considered a general statement.

Wayne, I'm only going to chime in here and say let's assure that it's legal to keep native fauna where this poster lives before we encourage him to keep the snake.

Here in Ontario, it is illegal to own ANY native reptile or amphibian without a permit, and the permit is only given to very few individuals for educational purposes.

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

The little brother is three years old. For those of you without children a child of this age may do many crazy things like ask why someone is "big" , randomly inform you that their genitals are itchy, or yell out loud " who farted" in crowded places. Unfortunately three year olds are terrible little beasts!

Then again, I have 2- and 3yr olds I babysit that know how to properly and gently handle my adult ball python... It's all about teaching them to be gentle with all animals from the start

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

^^^^lol this is funny ^^^^

As stated in the feeding question thread, we dont know if its legal where you and if it is, you should be able to keep it. Even if its not, Im not going to tell you to release it. That decision is yours alone to make and Im not going to cast judgements at all based on that decision. This Brown snake is harmless as previously stated.

Re: !!!!!! Crazy Snake story

I cant find any thing about it being illegal, so so far so good. I am keeping it in a 5 gallon tank w/ the works (are seashells and newspaper OK for snake habitat?).

P.S. 3 year olds are not terrible little beasts, Korbin. I come from a family of twelve, so don't insult kids.
and we never said it was OK to throw animals around. that's just how I found him.

I will post pics on my gallery.

You can also post photos straight into a reply here in this thread. You can do this by uploading photos to a hosting site and then copying the url address in between [img] [/img], or attach them in the post.

I assume you are talking to me so..........

Simmer down Sparky. I have three children under the age of five and I will call them what I please. Also I am not sure how twelve kids in your family would change what I call "children". All of those examples come from my own children and I was actually giving your little brother the benefit of the doubt. Since your family doesn't condone throw snakes I hope your brother was corrected. Good luck.
