Do Carpets eat well?
Ball pythons have a rep for being very finicky feeders for good reason. I was wondering if anyone here has come across a few tough carpets to feed, or if someone has reason to believe they are truly a more reliable feeder than a ball python.
The type of carpet I'm most intersted in is Irian Jaya, however I may go with a jungle...
EDIT: wrong forum! my mistake, I'm going to post this with carpet talk...

Re: Do carpets eat well?
Carpets are great eaters for the most part. Trading in your BP for a carpet?

Re: Do carpets eat well?
Out of my BP and my JCP the JCP strikes more readily and is a more aggressive feeder. My BP has eaten at every feed except for 12 weeks over winter.

Re: Do Carpets eat well?
oh thats 2 bad your in the states, i would have sold you a IJ 100% het granite male i dont need for cheep lol either choice you said, you cant go wrong, you cant go wrong with any carpet to be honest lol, my dad has 6 ball pythons up in the snake room, and they are finicky in a way, some need to be placed alone and left in the dark to eat, one only eats at night, so he just does all feeding that way, but now with a little effort they all eat every time with out fail, some will eat 2, sometime they dont but they always eat. somthing to consider before you give up on your ball python.

Re: Do carpets eat well?
Carpets are generally active, and they can be biters but are generally ok. When they bite... they don't miss.

Re: Do carpets eat well?
My coastal is an amazing feeder. She stays in food mode for two days though. I had a pair of jcp's a few years ago that were also amazing feeders but were a bit tough to switch to rats. Great being handled but all of the carpets I have had exhibit that weezing or "chuffing" while being handled. It stops as soon as I put them back though. I try to only handle once every 10 days or so. The less my coastal is handled the more she comes out to explore.

Re: Do Carpets eat well?
We had a clutch of 11 Carpets this year. Every single one of them besides one, took f/t mouse pinkies and than f/t rat pinkies fresh from the egg. No live, no forcefeeding, no problems. Carpets are awesome eaters!

Re: Do Carpets eat well?
Thanks for all the input! It seems like a carpet would be a good pet for me because it's less likely to stress ME out with having to wonder why it may not be eating, and they seem like they can be rewarding to see one grow and tame it!
